Your Opportunity:

The Laboratory Technologist I is part of a specialized team providing bacteriology services in an acute care environment for University of Alberta Hospital clients and for specialized reference bacteriology for our provincial clients. The Laboratory Technologist I will be responsible for recognizing bacterial pathogens and following established protocols for identification and susceptibility testing following established quality and safety requirements. The Laboratory Technologist I is also responsible for operating laboratory technical equipment and training of new staff, students and residents. Responsibilities also include participating in procedure review, new technology assessments and accreditation processes.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

As Required.

Preferred Qualifications:

One to two years of experience in a diagnostic bacteriology laboratory within the last five years. Process Excellence certification. Knowledgeable with the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act (HPTA). Experience with the Beaker Laboratory Information System.
