Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor or Manager, this position is primarily responsible for providing regional support for the defined area of charge. The role ensures effective representation, promotes consistency, and upholds quality standards from a zone perspective and across the province. This position is responsible for using advanced technical skills and judgment to assist Calgary Zone Urban Hospital lab site Technologist IIs with development and implementation of diagnostic testing, processes and procedures in conjunction with pathologists and laboratory managers. This position will be responsible for supporting lab administration duties to include testing, staff feedback, quality control programs, change management, quality management activities, project management, and costing. The position is responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Clinical Supervisor, Manager, Director, Zone Clinical Department Head, or Pathologists. The position will be primarily responsible for laboratory processes relating to Hematology.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of full time medical laboratory experience, preferably in a Medical Laboratory Technologist I or II role. Minimum of 3 years of full time experience in Hematology departments, preferably in a Medical Laboratory Technologist I or II role. Courses/certificates in personal leadership, process improvement, and/or change management.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with the workup, evaluation and troubleshooting of quality control, reagents, methods and equipment, procedure development and review. Experience with Accreditation standards and quality improvement initiatives. Experience with development and supervision of effective teams. Organizational, time management, sound decision-making skills, ability to influence others through well-developed oral and written communication. Familiar with LIS testing, acute care laboratory experience
