Two-year post-secondary program. Training in microbiology or biosafety/biosecurity 3-5 or more years of related work experience in leading a biosafety/biosecurity program. Knowledge of microbiology appropriate to the risks associated with the controlled activities authorized by the organization’s license, attained through a combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act and the Regulations and any applicable federal or provincial legislation. Registered Biological Safety Officer (RBSO) and/or Certified Biological Safety Officer (CBSO). A minimum of a degree/diploma/certification in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline and CRSP or CRST designation. If CRSP or CRST not present) candidate must already be enrolled in an accredited program with commitment to complete within 2 years must be provided.
Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, Biosafety or a related field in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is preferred (healthcare experience an asset). In addition, a minimum of 3 years related work experience in leading a biosafety/biosecurity program. Facilitation/coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation. Significant experience in problem solving, concerns resolution, investigation, and negotiation. Team leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others demonstrated ability to foster relationships/partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in coordinating research projects or teams, complex data analysis and/or interpretation, evaluation methodologies, and developing formal reports.
