Your Opportunity:

Are you ready to lead at the heart of one of Alberta’s busiest and most complex laboratory operations? As a Clinical Supervisor, Pre & Post Analytics (PPA) at the Diagnostic & Scientific Centre (DSC), you will partner with fellow supervisors and in-scope leaders to guide a large team delivering critical laboratory services that support patient care across Alberta. Operating 24/7, this high-volume department receives and processes more than 25,000 tests/day and serves as a key gateway for lab testing services. Working closely with leadership teams, you will provide operational leadership for Pre-Analytics, External Send-Outs, Mailroom, and Optical Scanning. You will help ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of specimens and information throughout the testing process. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine people leadership, operational oversight, quality improvement, workforce planning, and change management within one of APL’s hub labs.

Description:

Reporting to the PPA Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for staff supervision, development, recruitment, performance management, e-People functions, and the application of HR policies and collective agreements. The role promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement, safety, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with leadership to support schedule planning, operational decision-making, and the achievement of departmental and organizational goals. Responsibilities also include supporting Lab Quality Management Systems through accreditation and quality improvement initiatives, and implementation of new equipment and processes. Using strong leadership, problem-solving, and change management skills, the Clinical Supervisor identifies opportunities for improvement, implements best practices, and contributes to service excellence and high-quality patient care.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized medical laboratory program, such as Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT), or Combined Laboratory/X-Ray Technologist (CLXT). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Intermediate proficiency with EPIC and Microsoft Office applications. 3 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare and/or laboratory environment. Demonstrated experience leading staff, including performance management, coaching, employee engagement, and team development.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven leadership abilities with demonstrated success in conflict resolution, change management, and fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with staff, peers, physicians, and other stakeholders. Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic 24/7 operational environment while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, accountability, and service excellence. Commitment to quality, safety, accreditation, and continuous improvement principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Pre-Analytics or Specimen Processing. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a unionized environment. Experience with scheduling, timekeeping, and resource management. Experience in accreditation, quality improvement, process improvement, or organizational change. Additional education, coursework, in leadership, change management, Lean/AIW, or a related field. Experience using Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
