Your Opportunity:
Valleyview is located 350 kms north of Edmonton and 115 kms east of the City of Grande Prairie. The town has a population of 1972, with a trading area of 5000. Valleyview is strategically located at important crossroads that lead to Peace River, Northwest Territories, Dawson Creek, British Columbia, the Yukon, and Alaska. June to August are generally warm and sunny month and daylight hours can last up to 17 hours at the peak of summer! Two provincial parks, Williamson and Young’s Point, are a major attraction to the region. Sturgeon Lake and the parks are used in summer and winter for fishing perch, walleye and whitefish. The region is a sportsman’s paradise for those who enjoy cross country and downhill skiing and snowmobiling. Hunters from throughout the world come to seek moose, elk, white tail deer, mule deer, and bear. The Peace River Country is one of the world’s largest staging areas for migratory waterfowl, a remarkable event that attracts sportsmen and birdwatchers from all over North America. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, APL currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and take call by responding within 30 minutes. Must demonstrate high level of organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills. An ability to work well with patients and all members of the healthcare team. Entering, reviewing, reporting, and distributing patient results in an accurate, complete, timely, and efficient manner. Assessing unusual tests results and proceeding with established procedures for follow up with senior staff, pathologists, and physicians. Operation, calibration, and performance of basic troubleshooting with selected instrumentation and reporting equipment malfunction. Performing all required Quality Control procedures and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Investigating and documenting Quality Control problems and following up with Charge Technologist. Receives and reviews imaging requests for complete pertinent clinical and order information. Provides patient, public, and staff radiation protection and follows the principles of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Follows all established safety policies and procedures. Participation in training of new staff and students. Demonstrates interest in professional growth and be prepared to maintain competency of technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent training or previous CLXT experience and preferably in a rural setting is desirable. This position may require frequent physical demands that include walking, standing, bending, lifting, and hand movements and extensive use of computers that may cause eye strain.
