In addition to a competitive rate of pay, APL currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
Description:
As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and in diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs and reporting results. Your responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies and performing quality control procedures as required.

Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and take call by responding within 30 minutes. Must demonstrate high level of organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills. An ability to work well with patients and all members of the healthcare team. Entering, reviewing, reporting, and distributing patient results in an accurate, complete, timely, and efficient manner. Assessing unusual tests results and proceeding with established procedures for follow up with senior staff, pathologists, and physicians. Operation, calibration, and performance of basic troubleshooting with selected instrumentation and reporting equipment malfunction. Performing all required Quality Control procedures and maintaining accurate and up-to-date records. Investigating and documenting Quality Control problems and following up with Charge Technologist. Receives and reviews imaging requests for complete pertinent clinical and order information. Provides patient, public, and staff radiation protection and follows the principles of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA). Follows all established safety policies and procedures. Participation in training of new staff and students. Demonstrates interest in professional growth and be prepared to maintain competency of technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Core Laboratory experience in Phlebotomy, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis is preferred. Familiarity with the Sysmex XN450, Vitros XT3400, IStat, Clinitek Status, ACL Elite Pro, Access 2, Shimazu Fuji Reader Xray Machine and EPIC LIS is favorable.
