Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions to provide pre-analytical support to the clinical laboratory by receiving, accessioning and distributing patient specimens for the Specimen Control and Clinical Referred out Testing areas at the University of Alberta Hospital. Additional duties will also include phlebotomy in the inpatient and/or outpatient collection areas. Duties will include phlebotomy, sorting and matching specimens to requisitions, accessioning requisitions into the laboratory information system for samples referred in, sample distribution and send outs, as well as troubleshooting problem specimens.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A grade 12 high school diploma is required. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. The successful candidate must be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. The candidate selected will have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. The successful candidate must represent Alberta Precision Laboratories in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent Connect Care and Rover experience is an asset.
