Your Opportunity:

Tofield is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located approximately 68km east of Edmonton at the junction of Highway 14, Highway 834 and Highway 626. Beaverhill Lake is located immediately northeast of the community. It is a very busy department. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. Speak to the hiring manager who will confirm if, as the successful candidate in this position, you will be restricted to work at only one LTC/DLS site in Alberta.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an Accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program; or in its absence, experience will be considered. Experience performing macroscopic and microscopic urinalysis testing. Strong Phlebotomy skills. Proven interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills are required. Excellent public relations and a service-oriented manner are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients/clients, families, staff, interdisciplinary team members and personnel from other departments in a fast-paced, and changing environment. Proven analytic and problem solving skills, attention to detail, logical/methodical work habits, and demonstrated ability to work independently are required. Candidate must be well organizes and flexible. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner

Preferred Qualifications:

Within the past 2 years, Meditech LIS experience and knowledge is preferred and Medical Transcription in a healthcare setting is also preferred.
