Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
Additional Required Qualifications:2 years' experience in a medical laboratory working as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Equivalencies may be considered. Cardiology training and experience including ECG's and Holter Monitors. All blood collection procedures including: venipuncture, micro punctures, blood culture collections as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics. Recent macro and micro urinalysis experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Current registration with CSMLS. Experience with Connect Care Epic. Demonstrated participation in continuing education in a medical laboratory field. Recent experience in cardiology testing including Holter monitor and ECG with MUSE and Cardioday applications. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote teamwork. Familiar with Clinitek Status.
