Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
Additional Required Qualifications:Inpatient phlebotomy experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last year. Excellent phlebotomy skills: experience performing difficult venipunctures, advanced skills using straight needles with a high phlebotomy success rate. Consistently exceeds productivity targets in phlebotomy. Excellent communication skills with the ability to comprehend complex information easily. Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Strong ability to organize and complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner. Ability to maintain strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. LIS experience (Millennium and/or Epic). Comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume environment. Ability to wear an N95 mask Any Canadian equivalency to English 30 or 33 or CLBA score of Benchmark 8 completed within the last six months.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in: neonatal skin puncture in an organization of significant size. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development, process improvement or change management. Demonstrates initiative, analytical thinking, problem solving skills. Experience interpreting workflow visuals, ability to respond appropriately to meet turnaround times. Ability to lead self through change. National certification with CSMLS. WHMIS 2015 certification. Microsoft office experience.
