Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent, relevant experience performing procedures in a core laboratory. Laboratory experience includes phlebotomy, specimen collection, preparation and referral. Cardiology training and experience including ECG's and Holter Monitors. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail essential. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations prioritizing workload, demonstrating tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians required. Practices effective infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures, and maintain patient confidentiality. Mobile blood collections will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Familiar with Clinitek Advantus. Recent experience with Muse and Cardioday. Recent and relevant experience with Epic Beaker. Current registration with CSMLS. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote teamwork. Receptive to new ideas and change.
