Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 Diploma. Experience in working in a hospital environment. Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program which includes specimen handling and phlebotomy. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Recent, relevant experience performing procedures in a core laboratory. Laboratory procedures include phlebotomy (venipuncture and micropuncture), specimen collection, preparation and referral. Experience performing ECG and Holter monitoring testing. Urinalysis testing and microscopy experience. Ability to understand and follow instruction and procedures. Effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing. Proficiently operate a computer to input patient data. Ability to work independently in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work collaboratively and tactfully in a pleasant manner with patients/clients, families, staff members and personnel from other departments. Evidence of initiative and flexibility. Evidence of thoroughness, accuracy, speed and attention to detail in performance of duties. Evidence of responsibility in dealing with confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

Computer experience is preferred in Connect Care, Muse, and Cardioday. Medical terminology and experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
