Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation. Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered. If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology). The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility. You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.
Additional Required Qualifications:Accredited Urinalysis course including theory and practical. Recent phlebotomy and urinalysis experience. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills is required.
Preferred Qualifications:Good interpersonal skills, effective time management, and the ability to set priorities are an asset. The successful candidate should have good verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with the Epic/Beaker Laboratory Information Systems and general computer applications. They should be adaptable to a changing environment and represent Zonal Laboratory Services in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.
