Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor in collaboration with the MLA II or department MLT II the Laboratory Assistant I (MLA I) will perform routine duties that assist with the delivery of patient care in accordance with all standards as defined by respective services and accrediting bodies. This may include but is not limited to urinalysis and send-out bench duties, specimen handling and processing e.g. sorting and matching specimens to requisitions, accessioning requisitions into the laboratory information system, sample preparation, distribution and transport, troubleshooting problem specimens. Duties in urinalysis testing include macroscopic and microscopic examination, maintenance and responsibility for inventory and supplies, and management of report distribution. You will be responsible for communicating effectively in oral and written manner while enhancing relationships with laboratory and non-laboratory personnel. Candidate may also assist other departments - Chemistry and Specimen Control. The Consequential Vacancy process may be used to fill any resulting vacancies.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program and relevant courses in Urinalysis required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Excellent typing skills are required. Organized, independent worker and strong team player committed to providing quality patient care. The ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relate information, take direction or questions over the phone, in person or in writing in an accurate, clear, and concise manner. The ability to organize and prioritize tasks while adapting to changing circumstances and interruptions. Must be approachable, reliable, flexible, and tactful team member contributing to a positive work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in Urinalysis and/or relevant courses in Urinalysis is an asset. Knowledge of medical terminology is an asset. Previous experience working in the Urinalysis/Specimen Control Department in the past 5 years. Recent experience with using Epic Beaker-CP.
