The town of Canmore is located approximately 80km west of Calgary nestled among Alberta’s Rocky Mountain Range. With quick access to a multitude of hiking, biking, cross country ski trails as well as quick access to Canada’s first National Park it’s easy to see why Canmore is an ideal community to call home. With a population of 14,000 Canmore offers many city amenities while still maintaining rural charm. The Canmore hospital provides the Bow Valley with a variety of services including Acute Care, Long Term Care, Emergency, Labor and Delivery as well as hospital outpatient services and public health. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts assigned within the rotation. Reporting directly to the on-site senior technologist and the Regional Rural Supervisor, the MLA will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL / AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL’s information privacy and information security policies.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent Experience within the Last 2 Years Performing Phlebotomy. Recent Training within the past 2 years will be considered Experience using Microsoft Office and Windows.
Preferred Qualifications:1 Year or more Experience working in Epic Beaker is an Asset. 1 Year or more Experience Collecting Neonates is an Asset.
