We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and highly team-focus acute care laboratory. Our pre-analytical department is dedicated to delivering high-quality diagnostic lab services across multiple clinical care buildings, including Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Center, Main Acute Care Hospital, Special Services Building, North Tower-Grace Women’s Health, McCaig Tower, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Clinics. You will interact with a diverse group of healthcare professionals, contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care. The role requires adaptability and resilience, as you will be handling a variety of tasks in a fast-paced setting. Daily responsibilities will include performing venipuncture with preference to straight needles, focusing on accuracy and patient comfort, receiving and preparing specimens/samples for testing, utilizing electronic clinical information systems and devices, all while ensuring quality control, operation, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Enjoy a static schedule that promotes a healthy work-life balance: Day shift with every other weekend 0530-1345. Please note this role has a physical component that requires extended periods of walking, standing, bending and lifting.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Competency in all phlebotomy techniques Inpatient phlebotomy (venipuncture/skin puncture) and data entry experience within the last 6 months. Inpatient phlebotomy experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last year. Experience with Clinical Information systems (e.g., EPIC). Competent in both verbal and written communication skills, at a level that enables one to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients and other allied health providers. Able to walk 1.2Km or greater Able to continuously wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a period greater than or equal to 8 hours. Able to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 20 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in neonatal skin puncture in the last year. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development. Courses or training in process improvement or change management. National certification with CSMLS. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite Applications. Experience in working in conditions where: exposed to biohazardous substances, chemicals and noise variances; extended and continuous standing/walking; use of fine motor skills; shift work.
