In addition to a competitive rate of pay, APL currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will perform advanced preanalytical or analytical techniques on specimen/samples or coordinate, prioritize, monitor, and assign duties of laboratory staff in your assigned area. You will resolve escalated issues, conduct quality control investigations and maintain technical and operational procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory staff maintain compliance with policies and procedures and will provide coaching and feedback to staff and students.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
Additional Required Qualifications:The Laboratory Assistant II performs and provides supervision for specified technical functions as required by the assigned by the Clinical Supervisor and Manager. The Medical Laboratory Assistant II will apply extensive technical knowledge and skills to assist their direct supervisor with organizing, evaluating, and training and will actively participate in process improvement. Determining priorities for the area and directing staff to ensure tasks are completed efficiently. They ensure questions and problems that arise are dealt with or communicated to their direct supervisor. They schedule staff as required and cover when short staffed. Responsibilities will include performing all aspects of the pre-analytical path of workflow including phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques, accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, performing ECGs, and clerical duties. The successful candidate will provide support to the lab by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience with EPIC Beaker LIS. Three years of recent and relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. Supervisory experience or courses.
