Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Supervisor or Manager, this position is responsible for coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring, participating in the work performed in the area, troubleshooting, and quality management. The Laboratory Assistant II assists with the day-to-day supervision, training, coaching and orientation of staff. Provides direction and coordinates technical functions. Responsible for providing feedback, coaching and support to staff and communicating to the supervisor as applicable. Involved in evaluating, monitoring, developing and making adaptations to the laboratory department under the direction of the supervisor and/or manager. Monitors daily operations and department workflow. Adheres to all safety precautions and practices and promotes safety in the workplace. Maintains records as appropriate to their scope of work. Communicates with physicians/nurses/healthcare professionals regarding patient samples. Participates in the training, orientation and scheduling of students and staff. Performs administrative duties such as filing, faxing, reports distribution, and archiving when required. Collaborates on the preparation of manuals. Performs payroll, scheduling and related duties, including coverage for absences to ensure proper and adequate coverage in the department. Leads and positively supports organizational and divisional initiatives. Promotes teamwork and a positive and inclusive culture. Completes all required readings. Maintains competence through training and competency testing. Performs MLA I and other duties as required.

Description:

As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will perform advanced preanalytical or analytical techniques on specimen/samples or coordinate, prioritize, monitor, and assign duties of laboratory staff in your assigned area. You will resolve escalated issues, conduct quality control investigations and maintain technical and operational procedures. You will be responsible for ensuring laboratory staff maintain compliance with policies and procedures and will provide coaching and feedback to staff and students.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an MLA. Recent and relevant experience in an RRL setting. Leadership and customer service experience. Demonstrates excellent reliability, accuracy, productivity and quality of work in adherence to policies, procedures and performance standards. Excellent time management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain composure in difficult situations. Ability to promote and lead a respectful team environment. Recent phlebotomy experience in a hospital. Proven ability to collaborate and resolve conflict. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with payroll, scheduling, purchasing, inventory, e-people and budgeting. Experience with quality control and quality assurance procedures and working within accreditation standards. Experience in neonatal skin puncture. Experience in pediatric and/or neonatal venipuncture. Experience in training and competency assessments. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development. Courses or training in process improvement or change management.
