Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of a Pathologist, Manager or Supervisor, the Laboratory Scientist I will engage in research, development, and implementation activities. This includes test method evaluation, troubleshooting, data collection and analysis, report preparation, and maintaining laboratory manuals. The role also involves directing Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) and Laboratory Assistants. Knowledge in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment and methods; resolve operational problems in conjunction with technical support staff. Familiar with operational process of pathology from specimen receipt to results reporting. Participates in the research and development/test method process. Collects and analyzes data, collects background information including literature reviews. Establishes and maintains quality control standards for new procedures. Performs a variety of routine and specialized pathology procedures to a standard degree of proficiency and competency. Applies process analysis, critical thinking and acquired knowledge of pathology and quality control to effectively analyze and make decisions. Keeps informed of technological changes and new information in order to maintain specialist focus in the area. Maintains current knowledge in pathology and related fields. Reviews outcomes for accuracy and quality. Troubleshoots problems to resolution. Provides recommendations regarding troubleshooting stain methods and unusual patient results. Facilitates and assists in the preparation of resource material, such as procedure manuals and training documents. Recommends the purchase of reagents, supplies and capital assets to the appropriate individual. Communicates with technical representatives and suppliers to investigate new products or resolve problems with existing products, as required. Perform other related duties as required.

As a Laboratory Scientist I, you will perform work involving laboratory processes including research and development, test method implementation and change, routine testing as well as clinical trials. In addition, you will collect background information including literature reviews, analyze data, and prepare research proposals and summary reports.

Completion of Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
Additional Required Qualifications:Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Able to work with exposure to chemicals and gloves. Chemicals may include but not limited to: formalin, xylene, bleach. Any Canadian equivalency to English 30 or 33 or CLBA score of Benchmark 8 completed within the last 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications:3-5 years of recent Immunohistochemistry experience in a clinical setting. Experience with implementing and validating new methodologies. Knowledge of CAP/CPSA accreditation requirements. Experience with frozen tissue section processing and renal biopsies.
