Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Site Supervisor or RRL Manager, this Laboratory Technologist I position is responsible for performing a variety of automated & manual duties in a multi-skilled, team focused environment including, but not limited to: STAT, routine & specialized laboratory procedures, analysis, result entry & report verification, TM duties, equipment troubleshooting, workflow monitoring & specimen collection & preparation. Additionally, this position may be required to collect specimens & assist in Bone Marrow collections. The MLT ensures accurate patient & sample identification, sample integrity & suitability & documents unusual occurrences to the senior staff member. This position performs & documents QC & QA programs, taking appropriate action & ensuring proper follow up. Follows & is aware of all safety precautions & practices, including WHMIS & participates in the maintenance of a safe working environment. Recognizes unusual or abnormal findings & responds to these in accordance with established policies & procedures. Operates, maintains & performs troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments & equipment. Communicates with physicians/nurses/healthcare professionals regarding patient samples/results. Monitors department supply inventory & acts appropriately to maintain. Validates & assesses various procedures & equipment under the direction of the senior staff, supervisor, or manager. Participates in the training & orientation of students & staff. Collaborates on the preparation of manuals. Performs timekeeping & staff scheduling duties. Completes & maintains all required reading, training & competency testing. Provides feedback to supervisors for staff performance appraisals. Participates in quality initiatives & committee meetings. Performs routine & specialized Hematology & Chemistry laboratory procedures.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an urban RRL setting within the last 3 years. Greater than 2 years experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting current instrumentation and middleware in Hematology, Chemistry, and TM within the last 5 years. Experience with bone marrow collections. Proficiency in reading manual differentials. Preceptor & training experience. Working knowledge of Millennium and Microsoft Office. Courses or certificates in personal leadership, process improvement, and/or change management.
