Your Opportunity:
The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre is located in the city of Wetaskiwin, 70 km south of Edmonton. The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre provides services to the residents of the city of Wetaskiwin, Wetaskiwin County and the four Bands of Maskwacis. The population catchment area is approximately 35,000. The hospital has 70 acute care beds, 107 long term care beds and is the only collection site for community patients. Our site provides a busy and dynamic work environment for those who enjoy challenging their skills as a Medical Laboratory Technologist I. This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures within the scope of practice of an MLT I in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Specimen Procurement. The position includes days, evenings, nights and weekends.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent, relevant experience in Chemistry, Hematology and Coagulation. Proven excellence in performing Transfusion Medicine (theory and recent experience) is required. Recent experience in urinalysis including macroscopic and microscopic analysis. Recent experience in phlebotomy is required. Proven communications skills in English are required. Proven problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently and as a team. Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations, prioritize workload, and adapt to stressful situations are essential. Must be well organized, flexible and demonstrate initiative to take on extra projects as required within the lab environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 2 years' experience in a core lab. Connect Care, WellSky and unity real time experience an asset. Experience with Vitros XT 3400, DXH 600, ACL TOPS, Access 2, I-Stat, Clinitek Advantus, Triage Meter, Gel IAT/tube TM, ECG’S and Muse.
