Your Opportunity:
The Laboratory Technologist I in the Specialized Diagnostics department of ProvLab offers an exciting opportunity to perform, interpret, and report a variety of routine and specialized tests and services while following standard operating procedures. Key aspects include working within a team environment to provide technical knowledge and expertise for testing related to the research network, laboratory surveillance, the rapid response team, emerging pathogens testing, whole genome sequencing, and other specialized diagnostics testing. The Technologist I will work within a team setting and ensure quality competency, high quality testing operations, and accurate results. Additionally, the Laboratory Technologist I will follow established safety protocols and work within the established quality system to uphold required accreditation standards. Under the direction of the medical/scientific staff, the Technologist I will be knowledgeable in evaluating and suggesting follow-up tests of abnormal results; reviewing operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment; reviewing monthly quality control and maintenance records; and planning for and implementing changes to existing test protocols.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:One to two years of recent experience in a Diagnostic or Public Health Laboratory. One year (within the last three years) experience with specialized molecular testing, including NAT (with manual assessment and interpretations), and/or sequencing including whole genome sequencing. Excellent computer skills for Microsoft applications, including Microsoft Excel. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills. Demonstrated excellent problem solving, decision making, and trouble-shooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Additional education in Molecular Biology, genomics, and/or bioinformatics is an asset. Preferred candidates are ones who are knowledgeable with the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act (HPTA). Other qualifications include process Excellence certification or experience with the Epic Beaker Information System.
