Your Opportunity:
The consequential vacancy process may be used to fill any resulting vacancy. Reporting to the Site Supervisor or RRL Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of automated and manual duties in a multi-skilled, team focused environment including, but not limited to specialized laboratory procedures, analysis, result entry and report verification in Hematology, Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine, equipment troubleshooting, workflow monitoring and specimen collection preparation. The technologist ensures accurate patient and sample identification, sample integrity and suitability as required and documents unusual occurrences and notifies appropriate senior staff. Performs and documents quality control and assurance programs, taking appropriate action and ensuring proper follow up. Recognizes unusual or abnormal findings and responds to these in accordance with established policies and procedures. Operates, maintains, and performs troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments and equipment. Communicates with healthcare professionals regarding patient samples and results. Monitors department supply inventory and acts appropriately to maintain. Validates and assesses various procedures and equipment under the direction of the senior staff, supervisor or manager. Participates in the training, orientation, scheduling and performance management of students and staff. Maintains competence through training, competency testing, and required readings. Performs other duties as required.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent experience in an urban RRL hospital setting. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Working knowledge of Connect Care Beaker Module and /or Wellsky applications. Experience within the last year in Hematology, Chemistry and/or Transfusion Medicine.
Preferred Qualifications:Working knowledge of all instrumentation is preferred: Ortho Vision Swift, Cobas Pro, DXH, ACL TOPs. GEM 5000 and Osmo Pro. Experience operating, maintaining and performing troubleshooting on current instrumentation and middleware in lab areas. Working knowledge of reading differentials. Promotes a team environment and respectful workplace. Completion of leadership and/or change management courses is an asset. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
