Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will perform Hematology analysis, including analytical testing, result verification, quality control, instrument maintenance, use of biological safety cabinet (BSC) and trouble shooting. The incumbent is expected to work independently and as part of a team as well as assist in the training of new staff and students. Should the Viral Hemorrhagic Fever Fan-Out be activated, the successful candidate will be required to be on call and test samples from a patient with risk group 4 pathogens, using enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE), performing procedures within a containment level 3 (CL3) laboratory.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Familiarity with Connect Care / Epic / Beaker. Have a good understanding of quality control theory and application, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting hematology and coagulation analyzers. Good cell morphology skills. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone or in writing, in an accurate, clear and concise manner. Candidate must be well organized, flexible and able to prioritize and work under pressure. Computer literacy and keyboarding skills required. Must possess the ability to promote positive working relationships. Demonstrates and promotes the APL values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility and Accuracy. Work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience in a high-volume Hematology lab. Familiarity with Sysmex XN-9000, SP-10, CareSphere, Cellavision, ACL TOPs. Experience with CSF counts and differentials. Experience with body fluid counts and differentials. Experience working in a Biological Safety Cabinet. Graduate with BSc in Medical Laboratory Science.
