Your Opportunity:

The Cochrane Community Health Centre provides a wide range of health services including, Urgent Care, Public Health and Other community Health Services. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the health center and community. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working day and evening shifts on both weekdays and weekends. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor or Manager, and under the direction of the Health Centre Medical Laboratory Technologist II, the Laboratory Technologist I (MLT) will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL / AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s information privacy and information security policies. The successful candidate may occasionally be required to work at Sheldon M Chumir Health Center, Airdrie Community Health Center or South Calgary Health Center Lab as operational needs require. This position primarily works evening shift rotation at the Cochrane Community Health Center.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and transfusion medicine dispense. Experience in reading manual differentials. Current work experience in Hematology and Chemistry within the last 2 years. Ability to independently assess Quality Control results applying Westgard rules. Experience and ability to troubleshoot various laboratory analyzers.

Preferred Qualifications:

2-years experience in an Urgent Centre Testing area or Rural Lab. Connect Care training including Beaker and WellSky TM non-testing Technologist.
