Your Opportunity:
The Sheldon M Chumir Health Centre provides a wide range of health services to residents living in and around the Calgary Core, including 24-hour Urgent Care, Public Health, Home Care and Mental Health. The laboratory plays a key role in the interdisciplinary team within the hospital and community. Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor or Manager, and under the direction of the Urgent Care Center Technologist II, the MLT I will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. Employees shall maintain confidentiality of all APL/AHS information in accordance with HIA, FOIP and other privacy legislation in effect and shall comply at all times with APL/AHS’s information privacy and information security policies. The successful candidate may be occasionally redeployed to Airdrie Community Health Center Testing Lab, Cochrane Community Health Center Testing Lab or South Calgary Health Center Testing Lab as operational needs require. This position works primarily night shift with a rotation of 7 nights on, 7 nights off with potential for future rotation change to include days and evenings.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Proven ability to work within a computer-based environment using programs including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint and OneDrive. Experience in core laboratory theory including hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, and transfusion medicine dispense. Experience in reading manual differentials. Current experience in Hematology and Chemistry within the last 2 years. Ability to independently assess Quality Control results applying Westgard rules. Experience and ability to troubleshoot various laboratory analyzers. Clear Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to APL/AHS within the last 90 days (external applicants only).
Preferred Qualifications:2-year experience in an Urgent Centre Testing lab or Rural Lab. Connect Care training including Beaker and WellSky TM non-testing Technologist
