Your Opportunity:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist II – Department of Specialized Diagnostics (MLT II) you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of routine and specialized microbiological tests and procedures consistent with technical knowledge/skills required for the department, in order to deliver accurate, timely results to clients. As an MLT II, you will provide leadership and guidance within the department as part of daily laboratory activities. In addition, the Laboratory Technologist II will be knowledgeable in the following areas, including but not limited to: reviewing test results; evaluating and suggesting follow-up of abnormal test results under direction of a supervisor; reviewing, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment; reviewing records and QC; and assisting Clinical Supervisor in making changes to existing protocols.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:1-2 years current clinical experience in a large Microbiology Laboratory. Must work independently as well in a team setting with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of one year experience in Public Health Laboratory. Experience of at least one year specifically in Specialized Diagnostics, NAT, and/or sequencing including whole genome sequencing. Knowledge/experience of Safety and/or Quality related procedures in the department.
