Your Opportunity:
The Medical Laboratory Technologist II (MLT II) in the Clinical Microbiology Department (Virology) will perform a variety of routine and specialized microbiological tests, using serological and molecular procedures consistent with technical knowledge/skills required in the department to deliver accurate and timely results. As a MLT II in Virology, you will provide technical leadership and guidance within the department as part of daily laboratory activities. In addition, the MLT II will be knowledgeable and have advanced skills in the following areas, including but not limited to: reviewing test results, evaluating and suggesting follow-up of abnormal test results under direction of a supervisor; reviewing, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of equipment; reviewing records and quality control; quality, safety, and accreditation requirements; and assisting Clinical Supervisor in making changes to existing protocols and lab workflows.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of two years of combined laboratory experience as an MLT. Minimum of two years of experience performing serological and/ immunoassay testing. Minimum of two years of experience performing molecular testing. Experience working in a Public Health Laboratory. Must work independently as well as in a team setting with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Displays leadership and promotes teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:One or more years in a technical supervisory role. Experience with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation program. Familiar with the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act (HPTA) program components. Trained in process excellence. Trained in change management. Experience with Epic Beaker LIS.
