You’re an analytical, organized lab technologist who works well under pressure. Help clinicians and patients diagnose and manage disease in Alberta Precision Laboratories’ (APL’s) busy Rural Communities. This position is responsible for using advanced technical skills and judgement to assist South Zone Rural Lab Site Supervisors with development and implementation of diagnostic processes, procedures in conjunction with Pathologists and laboratory managers. This position will be responsible for supporting lab administration duties to include testing, staffing, training and feedback, quality control programs, scheduling, costing and ordering supplies when needed. The position is responsible for recognizing results or problems that require referral to the Clinical Supervisor, Manager, Director, Zone Clinical Department Head, Clinical Chemists or Pathologists. The position will be primarily but not exclusively responsible for laboratory processes relating to Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Specimen Pre-and Post Analytics. Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience. 3 years of experience in Chemistry, Hematology and Coagulation, preferably within the last 3 years. Excellent understanding of pre-analytic, analytics and post analytic processes in Chemistry, Hematology and Coagulation including instrumentation. Proven success in performing administrative and supervisory functions in a diagnostic laboratory setting. Extensive experience using laboratory information systems, computer systems, and software applications. Knowledge and experience with accreditation standards (e.g., CPSA), including implementation and addressing identified deficiencies. Demonstrate knowledge of Laboratory Safety practices. Ability to give and receive constructive feedback: proven ability to prioritize workload, delegate tasks and adapt to stressful situations while maintaining tact and diplomacy. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development within the field. Advanced technical troubleshooting with instruments, equipment, reagents and quality control, performing incident investigations and implementing corrective action. Experience with development and performance of instrument /maintenance protocols. Demonstrate ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated project management problem solving, decision making and organization/time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent rural lab experience in chemistry, hematology & coagulation. Experienced in new equipment workup, method validation, statistical analysis, reagent management, proficiency testing & LIS user acceptance testing. Demonstrate ability to work independently & collaboratively, manage priorities, communicate clearly, develop & supervise effective teams. 3 years of supervisory experience with training in quality improvement, conflict resolution, customer service; leadership courses an asset.
