Your Opportunity:

Laboratory Assistant I will provide support to the laboratory, by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. Under the direct supervision of the Team Leaders, the primary responsibilities include collection of blood specimens from adults and children using macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, receipt and sorting specimens, assisting in the orientation, and teaching of new staff, co-workers and external clients, performing ECG’s. Follows current laboratory policies and procedures, including Laboratory safety procedures. You will work a combination of 7.75- and 5-hour shifts, usually resulting in 7 shifts in a 2-week period.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent phlebotomy experience and specimen handling. Computer and keyboarding skills. Accredited ECG course including theory and practical.

Preferred Qualifications:

Good interpersonal skills, effective time management, and the ability to set priorities are an asset. The candidate selected should have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions, or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner. The successful candidate should be adaptable to a changing environment and represent Zonal Laboratory Services in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.
