Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will provide support at the Cross Cancer Institute laboratory by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis. The primary responsibilities of the Laboratory Assistant I includes collection of blood specimens from cancer care patients, performing ECGs, specimen processing and transport, and management of transfusion medicine products at the Cross Cancer Institute. The Cross Cancer Institute laboratory has a robust Outpatient Collection Department and also provides service to the Inpatient Unit and various Ambulatory Clinics.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:The outpatient department at the Cross Cancer Institute can be quite busy; therefore, the ability to prioritize and work independently, as well as in a group, is required. The successful candidate shall be well-organized, flexible, and able to work under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience with outpatient and inpatient settings is welcome. Experience (within the last year) with EPIC Beaker is strongly preferred. Previous worked experience at the Cross Cancer Institute is a major asset. Experience collecting research kits and performing collections for clinical trials is an asset.
