The Anatomic Pathology Esoteric Laboratory at Foothills Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our team for an approximately 12-month term. We are a small, high-performing, and collaborative lab dedicated to delivering specialized patient care through teamwork and precision. In this role, you will support a variety of essential laboratory functions, including but not limited to: receiving and tracking surgical specimens; assisting pathology assistants and pathologists during intraoperative consultations; performing tissue processing and maintenance; filing and retrieving slides and paraffin blocks; organizing slides into complete cases for pathologist review; maintaining automated slide staining equipment; and contributing to other laboratory tasks as required. This position is ideal for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the dynamic, behind-the-scenes environment of anatomic pathology.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Previous experience in technical aspects of a laboratory setting (specimen handling, aliquoting or pouring off, etc. are considered transferable skills.) Proficiency in data entry or accessioning (in Epic is considered an asset). Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. Please note that this is a physical position and heavy lifting up to 25 lbs., standing or walking for long periods, or constant sitting/standing/walking, will be required of you. Due to the nature of the work we do in this department, ability to work with chemicals (xylene, alcohol, formalin) and ability to wear gloves and full-face respirator and/or full PPE is mandatory. Any Canadian equivalency to English 30 or 33 or CLBA scores of Benchmark 8 completed within the last six months.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous Anatomic Pathology experience is preferred (within 2 years.) Post-secondary education in a healthcare or medical field will be a great asset to you in this position. Knowledge of Epic (especially the AP module).
