Your Opportunity:
This is a 0.7 FTE rotating position working 7 days on and 7 days off, including every second weekend. Reporting to the Senior Technologist and under the direction of the Supervisor or Manager, the incumbent is responsible for performing a wide range of Hematology laboratory duties. The successful candidate performs, records, and reports diagnostic testing in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures to ensure accurate, timely, and high quality results. The role includes identifying abnormal or unusual findings and promptly notifying the Senior Technologist or Hematopathologist as required. Responsibilities include performing and documenting quality control and quality assurance activities, as well as operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instruments to ensure optimal performance. The position also assists with departmental supply inventory management, including re-ordering supplies as needed. The incumbent may participate in the validation and evaluation of new procedures and equipment under the guidance of the Senior Technologist, Supervisor, or Manager, and may contribute to the training and orientation of staff and students. The role requires appropriate response to non-conforming events and unusual situations, with the ability to recognize and escalate complex issues to the Senior Technologist. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders. The successful candidate maintains a professional image, demonstrates a positive attitude, promotes a respectful work environment, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team while building positive working relationships.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:As required.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent (within the last 2 years) MLT experience in a dedicated Hematology department, experience in a fast paced acute care setting. Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting knowledge of the Sysmex XN900, Caresphere middleware, Cellavision, ACL TOPs and Connect Care LIS.
