Your Opportunity:
The Laboratory Technologist II in the North Hub Microbiology department is part of a dynamic team that provides acute care and community microbiology services for northern and central Alberta. Key aspects of this position include working in a team environment to provide technical expertise and supervision for the testing area. Your responsibilities will include coordinating day to day operations, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving, and performing and guiding troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. The successful candidate will work closely with medical and front-line teams to develop and maintain protocols within the laboratory. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects and the quality control functions of the laboratory, ensuring accreditation standards are maintained. The Laboratory Technologist II will also be knowledgeable in and responsible for test method validations of new equipment installation and implementation while following established safety protocols and working within the established quality system.
Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of five years’ experience in a microbiology laboratory. Excellent written and verbal skills. Excellent computer skills for Microsoft application including Word and Excel. Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize team workflow. Demonstrates appropriate professional judgement. Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning and decision-making skills. Proven leadership ability including strong interpersonal skills for dealing with people in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of WHMIS, Laboratory Safety and demonstrated understanding and experience with laboratory Quality Systems. Strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction. A strong team player with ability to perform duties independently and with all members of the Microbiology team.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous supervisory experience in a Technologist II position. Frontline leadership certificate training. Additional experience or training on project or protocol teams, LEAN, or quality assurance programs is an asset. Proficient use of Epic Beaker laboratory information system including ability to retrieve and analyze data.
