Your Opportunity:
The Laboratory Technologist I is part of a highly specialized team working both in a Containment Level II and Containment Level III (CL3) lab environments providing services for the entire province to support the identification of Mycobacterium species and other Risk Group 3 organisms. The Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) recognizes specialized bacterial pathogens and follows established protocols for detection, identification, and susceptibility testing, while following all established safety protocols for working in a laboratory. The technologist performs quality control procedures as per requirements, operates technical equipment, participates in training of new staff, students and residents, regularly reviews procedures, assists in assessment of new technology, and participates in the accreditation processes. The Laboratory Technologist will be required to work in a Containment Level 3 (CL3) Laboratory and may be required to provide after hours on call by rotating through an after hours on-call rotation with other team members with the ability to respond within thirty minutes.

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Laboratory Technology or Science required with evidence of appropriate certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:One to 2 years of bacteriology experience within the last 5 years in a Diagnostic or Public Health Microbiology Laboratory. Experience with the EPIC Beaker/Connect Care.
